Italian language, culture and other subjects for foreigners
Consult the list of schools, centres and academies which offer courses primarily aimed at International students
You can seek courses by regione and/or city and/or type. In the section relating to the type of the courses, the entries on the menu are deliberately generic, for example, “Lingua italiana”, “Design”, “Musica”, “Canto”. Through these entries the website of the schools, where all the subtypes are offered, are referred to.
Guarantees regarding the quality of the organisations and the teaching are offered by the schools of Italian language and culture which have obtained the recognition entitled “Presa d'atto del MIUR” (after an inspection by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Scientific research)
Visiting the website of the schools verifies whether they form part of the Associations which propose to safeguard the quality of the services offered and which will respond to the needs of the clients. These Associations are:
at a national level:
ASILS (Association of Schools of Italian as a Second Language)
. AIL (Accademy of Language)
at international level:
FIYTO (Federation of International Youth Travel Organisations)
ALTO (Association of Language Travel Organisations)
IALC (International Association of Language Centres)
TANDEM (International Network of Quality Language Institutes)
EAQUALS (The European Association for Quality Language Services)
. IHWO (International House World Organisation)
It is important to know if the schools are recognised as an Educational Body and have earnt the right to issue the Certification of knowledge of the Italian Language.
For all the schools that do not have any of these requirements it is recommended that one checks to see whether their website contains clear and precise information regarding:
- the economic conditions of the courses offered (prices, deposits, refund of deposits in the case of cancellations)
- the location of the courses (building, classrooms, infrastructure, technical facilities)
- the characteristics of the student accomodation (costs and location)
- teaching staff (titles of study and curriculum)
- the teaching material used
